Our sixth graders learned about the importance of teamwork today while doing some measuring and trial/error. They attempted to build the highest tower using only spaghetti noodles, tape, and string. It had to be free standing and strong enough to hold a large marshmallow. The tallest tower made today was 51 cm!

We have had to quarantine approximately 30 kids in the last two days at the high school. With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I am asking for your help. I know that kids want to spend time together,
and COVID has been very hard for them. Unfortunately, what we have again seen in the last two days is that the contact kids are having with each other at get-togethers outside of school are leading to positive cases and more quarantines. We are asking for your help over this Thanksgiving holiday to stop the spread amongst our high school kids. Please limit the time they are with large groups of friends. We really do not want to have to go virtual or even hybrid between now and Christmas break, but that is possible if we continue to see this spread. Our concern is that kids will hang out together over the Thanksgiving holiday break and cases will be higher when we return next week than they are noW. Please help up stop that from happening. Thank you all!
I do sincerely hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving! While it has been a challenging year, we also have many things to be thankful for.

If you would like to apply to have your child participate in virtual instruction next semester, you must contact your building office to pick up an application. Those applications must be submitted to the building principal between November 23-December 4. Applications will not be accepted after December 4. If you have any questions, please contact the building principal.

School WILL BE in session Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24. School will not be in session for Thanksgiving Break Wednesday, November 25-Friday, November 27. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our first basketball game is quickly approaching as we take on Iberia this Friday, November 20. We want to make sure you are all aware of our guidelines for basketball season home games.
1. The entire side of the bleachers behind the scorers table and team benches will be reserved for Linn students and staff. This will allow us to spread kids out while still allowing them to attend. The students will either have to social distance or wear a mask.
2. Allow four tickets per player for opposing teams. No limit on Linn spectators at this time.
3. Within 10 minutes, all spectators need to have cleared the gym after the game.
4. Cheerleaders will only attend home games.
5. Masks are required for all spectators unless social distancing can occur. Failure to comply may result in removal from the gym.

Just a REMINDER! Fall picture retakes are tomorrow!

As many of you may already be aware, today, Governor Mike Parson, the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced modifications to Missouri’s K-12 school reopening and operating guidance.
The large number of students and school staff members quarantined in recent weeks has presented a significant strain for educators, school leaders, and Missouri families alike.
Under the updated guidance, proper mask wearing may now prevent individuals from being identified as close contacts in K-12 schools that have implemented a mask mandate. This means that if both individuals at school – the person diagnosed with COVID-19 and the person exposed to the positive case – have masks on and are wearing them correctly, the individual exposed does not need to quarantine.
The Osage County R-II Administrative Team will meet tomorrow to discuss recommendations for new operating procedures specifically regarding the wearing of masks. These recommendations will then be presented to the Board of Education at the regular meeting on Tuesday, November 17. Following that meeting, we will put any new procedures out to the faculty, staff, students and public. I want all families to be prepared that new procedures are likely coming in the very near future. We will keep you updated as we know more.

The Osage County R-II School District will be holding our annual Veterans Day Assembly virtually this year. The assembly will be broadcast on Facebook beginning at 10:00 AM. We will have performances from the high school choir, high school band, 1st grade and 4th grade. In addition, we will have essays shared by various students. Please join us virtually!
The 1st and 4th grade students will be holding their Veterans Day concert on November 11 at 6:30 PM in the Fieldhouse. Families are welcome to attend, but must wear a face mask at all times. This concert will also be broadcast virtually via Facebook.
A huge thank you to our Veterans and their families for their service, dedication and commitment to our country. We are thankful for the sacrifices you made in service to our country so that we may have the freedoms we enjoy today.

Congratulations and great job to Myra Baker and Ramsie Tschappler for their outstanding performance at the state cross country meet today. Myra came in 35th and Ramsie came in 62nd out of approximately 160 runners. We are very proud of you, ladies! Congratulations to Coach Baker and Coach Wilbers as well! #wildcatpride #wildcatstrong

Good luck to Myra and Ramsey tomorrow as they head to the state cross country meet! We will be cheering you on from Linn even though we can’t be there with you! #wildcatpride

We regret to announce that parents and other visitors will not be allowed to enter the building tomorrow for the Halloween parties or parade. As disappointed as we are, we feel it is in the best interest of our students. We will do our best to post pictures during the day. Thank you for understanding

Congratulations Linn FCCLA Lifesmarts team for being in the top 40 teams in the nation and moving on to the second round! Keep up the good work! Team members: Ally Wagner, Gibson Tschappler, Emma Kucsik, Marissa Gehlert, and Case Pinkerton!

The Osage County R-II School District is seeking a part-time custodian on Tuesday-Friday evenings from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Starting pay is $10.36 per hour. Please send completed applications to smiths@linn.k12.mo.us or drop it off at the district administration office at 141 Wildcat Drive. Applications can be found at: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/734060/General_Employment_Application.pdf

We will resume regular classes at the high school beginning next Tuesday, October 20. We want to thank everyone for their patience through this hybrid learning model. We will be glad to have all of our students back. Please encourage students to continue wearing their masks. We want to do everything we can to keep our staff, students and community safe and keep everyone in school!

In light of the fact that we have seen the number of positive COVID-19 cases in school increase as well as the cases in Osage County as a whole, we are going to postpone the craft fair scheduled for October 25. We hope to be able to re-schedule it at a later day if it become safer to do so. We hate having to postpone this traditional event, but feel it would be irresponsible to hold a large multi-community event during a time when cases are spreading and a lot of those cases are coming from large gatherings. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate this unbelievably crazy path!

We received word yesterday that the waiver allowing us to provide free meals to students has been extended through June 2021. All students will continue receiving free meals for the remainder of the year!

Final score Wildcats 23 Wolves 37. Great try boys!

After first half Wolves 17 Wildcats 11. Let’s go Wildcats!

At the half Wolves 27 Wildcats 8

Just a reminder that all parents of students who are picking children up after school need to do so via the parent pick-up line. This is for students in elementary, middle and high school. Please follow the established process. This includes giving your name to the ladies close to the catwalk and getting a cone number. Your child will then be at the cone number you were given when it is your turn. We load ten cars at a time. Please wait in line until all ten cars have loaded and that line is dismissed. Do not pull out of the line and go around others. This creates a very unsafe situation for everyone involved. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!

We will be resuming Jr. High sports next week. Unfortunately, due to quarantines, we are unable to resume HS sports. Here are the events for next week:

Since we now have our seating charts in place and some kinks ironed out on buses, we are no longer going to require our students to wear masks when getting on or off the bus. Thank you to all of those who were very diligent about doing this!
Beginning in the very near future, we will have touchless thermometers mounted on the buses. Students will place their hand in front of the thermometer for a very quick temperature reading. During morning pick-up, if a child has a temperature over 100.4 and if the parent is at the bus stop, the child will remain in the parent's care and will not board the bus. If the parent is not at the bus stop, the child will wear a mask for the entire trip and will be seated in a seat alone. Once the bus gets to school, parents will be contacted to pick up their child. On the afternoon route, no child with a fever over 100.4 will be allowed to board a bus. The child will remain at school and parents will be contacted.

There will be a flu shot clinic held at Linn R2 on October 9 by the Osage County Health Department. Please see the attached letter for details. If you are interested in getting your child the flu shot on October 9, please contact school nurses, Lisa Walsch and Chelsea Smith, to obtain the consent form. If you have any questions, you may also contact our school nurses at 573-897-4200. Lisa's extension is 1104 and Chelsea's is 3334.

Thank you to all of our faculty, staff, students and parents for a great first day of school! It was so great to see everyone back and today was a great day! We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead. We will see you all again tomorrow!

Kindergarten parents: We neglected to adjust our supply list to ask for nap mats that are easy to wipe instead of soft blanket material. The traditional vinyl or plastic mats work well. If you have already sent or planned to send a blanket, we will use these at nap time and then send home to be washed until you have a chance to make the necessary adjustment. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you!

As part of this plan, all students who will be riding the bus must have a mask on when they get on the bus and when they get up out of their seat to get off the bus. While they are seated in their seats, they may take the mask off. All 7-12 grade students will also need a mask during times when they cannot social distance such as between classes, standing in lunch line, etc. All students who ride buses will also only be assigned to ride one bus. We will be utilizing the main parking area for parent-pick up after school. We will not be utilizing the circle drive behind the elementary school.
We can’t wait to have all of our students back with us. We are committed to doing everything we can to keep our kids healthy and safe while providing a high quality education. We will see you soon!

COVID-19 RE-OPENING PLAN
By following the link below, you can view the entire COVID-19 Re-opening plan as it stands at this time. Please keep in mind that COVID-19 guidelines are constantly changing. As a result, this document will likely change throughout the year as well. If you have comments or suggestions, please email smithd@linn.k12.mo.us.
It is also important to remember that there are many different opinions and beliefs regarding COVID-19, including within the medical community itself. This plan cannot encompass the beliefs of everyone, but we have developed a plan that we feel gives us a good guideline by which to make decisions. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary based on the circumstances present at that time.

One of the questions I’m receiving a lot is if we have to go to virtual learning will it be the same as it was last spring. To say we were completely unprepared to go to complete distance learning in March would be an understatement! Since that time, we have learned a lot. If we have to go to virtual instruction again, we will continue with new learning. Teachers will not just be doing review. They will be utilizing Google Classroom and Zoom to provide instruction. There may be other platforms they use as well if they are more suited to their content. Students in grades 7-12 will be provided with a Chromebook this year. For those families who do not have access to technology in grades K-6, we will be working with each family individually to provide instruction through a different method. There may be some students in grades 7-12 who also do not have internet access at home. Again, we will work with each family based on their needs. Please just know, new instruction will be occurring.
Several of you have already sent questions or suggestions. I may not respond to you right away because I won’t be back in the office until the end of next week. Please continue to send your questions and suggestions! I will go through them all carefully when I return.
For now, please have a great weekend. Try to forget about the stress this pandemic is causing right now and just enjoy some time with your family. Together we will get through this and we will help each other through the rough spots!

COVID-19 Protocols
Dear Parents and Community Members,
I know there are a lot of questions regarding school re-opening in the fall. We have been collaborating with the Osage County Health Department and and other area schools to develop a set of protocols designed to keep our faculty, staff and students as safe as possible when school resumes. We want our kids back at school and recognize the importance of having in-seat learning opportunities for our students. We also understand that virtual learning is not ideal for student learning and often creates additional stress for families.
Please take a moment to view the draft protocols by following the link below. Please look these over and let us know your thoughts. You can send any feedback or suggestions to smithd@linn.k12.mo.us. While we may not be able to implement every idea, we will definitely consider every idea presented. We want your input!
I hope you are taking some time to enjoy the summer despite the continued stress of COVID-19. Stay safe and healthy and we will see you soon!
Sincerely,
Dena Smith
Superintendent

There seems to be a lot of stress regarding the wipes and hand sanitizer items on the school supply lists. Those are on there every year and we did not take them off this year. We thought if people had any extras at home and could send one in, that would only help the overall cause. Please know the school is purchasing a lot of wipes and a lot of hand sanitizer. If you don’t have these items and/or can’t find them anywhere, please do not stress over it. We will take care of it. If you have extras you want to send in, we will take them. If not, that is absolutely fine!
