ACT/SAT TESTING

ACT: Register at act.org
Cost is $52. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch and are a junior/senior, see the counselor for a fee waiver. This will allow you
 to take the test FREE, which you may do twice. Many colleges are requiring the ACT be sent DIRECTLY to them from ACT, so be sure to put that school's code when you register. Otherwise, it will cost you extra to have ACT send the scores later.

How do you get good ACT scores?

#1: Take core classes.
#2: Practice, Practice, Practice
: Great websites to practice for the ACT are:

www.4tests.comwww.number2.com;
www.actstudent.org/sampletest/
https://www.mometrix.com/academy/act-test/

Practice books are available in the counselor’s office!

When should I take the ACT?

ACT recommends a student take the ACT during their junior year or upon completion of Algebra 2 & Geometry. I recommend you take it during your junior year.

Why should I care about higher ACT scores?

Fair or not, colleges attach scholarship dollars to ACT scores. Also, it is the second most important factor colleges consider in the admission process. The first being hard curriculum; so yes, it does matter when you choose to take easier classes. More preparation in high school may mean money in your pocket later.

To get a Bright Flight scholarship, you must score a 31 on the ACT. Currently, this amounts to $3000 per year for 5 years while attending a Missouri college or university. (Amount varies based on state funding.)

  • If applying to NCAA, you must have ACT scores sent directly to the NCAA. They will no longer accept ACT scores off a high school transcript. Put their code (9999) on the ACT registration packet.

  • If applying to NAIA, their code for the ACT packet is 9876.

  • Some colleges (MU and Northwest) are starting to request that scores come directly from ACT instead of the high school. Be sure to put their codes on the registration form. Otherwise, you will have to pay a fee for this.
